Merry Christmas! We're Donating Directly to Kiva in December

Just like many of our friends, colleagues and clients we won’t be sending Christmas cards from Inkspiller this year. Instead, we’re making a special donation directly to Kiva.org, the organisation we use to make our monthly ‘loans than change lives.’

In case you’ve missed our posts about them (where have you been?) Kiva’s mission is alleviate poverty and give funding options to entrepreneurs without access to traditional banking systems.

Kiva are hugely successful, with a repayment rate of 98% and a 4 star (the highest) rating for effectiveness and efficiency from Charity Navigator, America’s independent guide to intelligent giving.

When a loan is made, 100% of the funds go to borrowers. Kiva never takes a cut and never charges fees to lenders either. However, like any business, they have constant operating costs to be met.

Donations made by individual lenders like us, as an optional addition to the loans we make, count for over two thirds of Kiva’s income. The other third is made up from grants, corperate sponsorship and bank interest. Our private donations are particularly important, as they enable Kiva to keep their fundraising costs low, and to be less reliant on larger one-off donations from big organisations.

We are proud to donate to Kiva because, like them, we believe in a world where everyone with a great idea holds the power to realise their potential and to create a better future for themselves and those around them.
